What is cobicistat used for?
From the label: indications and usageTYBOST is a CYP3A inhibitor indicated to increase systemic exposure of atazanavir or darunavir (once daily dosing regimen) in combination with other antiretroviral agents in the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and in pediatric patients weighing at least 14 kg. ( 1.1 ) Limitations of Use: TYBOST is not interchangeable with ritonavir to increase systemic exposure of darunavir 600 mg twice daily, fosamprenavir, saquinavir, or tipranavir due to lack of exposure data. The use of TYBOST is not recommended with darunavir 600 mg twice daily, fosamprenavir, saquinavir, or tipranavir. […]

Is there a generic for cobicistat (Tybost)?
The FDA approved the first generic cobicistat on February 7, 2024. 1 generic application is approved; 0 of it carry a current (not discontinued) marketing status in Drugs@FDA; that status is not evidence that the generic is on sale.
The Orange Book lists 2 patents for Tybost tablets: the compound patent runs to September 3, 2029 (pediatric exclusivity to March 3, 2030), and the last listed entry to April 6, 2033. A patent or exclusivity date is not the date a generic goes on sale: court cases and settlements move it either way.

- 2024 first generic approved
- 2033 last listed patent

What do FAERS reports show for cobicistat?
The FDA Adverse Event Reporting System holds 618 reports that list cobicistat among the medicines taken, through July 30, 2026, each a report of something that happened, not proof the medicine caused it; 64 are coded as a death and 192 as a hospital stay. Counts follow how widely a medicine is used and watched, and they are not a measure of how risky it is.

What else is labeled for the same conditions as cobicistat?
39 other medicines are given the same way (oral) and in the same FDA class as cobicistat or labeled mainly for the same use (HIV), the same class first. HIV lists all 47 medicines labeled for it, by any route. The first 8 are below. They are listed as records, not as substitutes: whether one can replace another is a prescriber's decision.
