Disclaimer & Responsible Use

PlainMeds is a free informational resource that makes public FDA and CMS drug data easier to read. It is not medical, pharmaceutical, legal, or financial advice, and it does not diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, or assess any individual's situation. Use it as a starting point for understanding a medication, not as guidance about whether to take, stop, or change one.

Not medical or professional advice

Nothing on PlainMeds constitutes medical, pharmaceutical, or professional advice, and using the site does not create any professional relationship. Always consult a licensed physician or pharmacist before starting, stopping, or changing any medication, and never disregard or delay professional advice because of something you read here. In a medical emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number). To report a suspected adverse drug reaction, contact FDA MedWatch.

What this data is, and is not

The information on PlainMeds is drawn from official FDA labeling, FAERS adverse-event reports, CMS NADAC pricing, and FDA recall and shortage records. A few things this means:

  • FAERS report counts are not a danger ranking. A report documents a temporal association, not proof a drug caused an outcome. Widely used drugs accumulate more reports regardless of their per-patient risk.
  • NADAC prices are not what you pay. They are the average acquisition cost pharmacies pay, before rebates, insurance, and patient-assistance programs — your out-of-pocket cost may differ significantly.
  • Interactions and warnings are summarized from FDA labeling and are not exhaustive; your own medication list, conditions, and history matter and only your prescriber or pharmacist can assess them.
  • Recall and shortage status reflect the official record at our last update and can change; a specific recall may affect only certain lots or manufacturers.

Data freshness and accuracy

Drug labels, prices, recalls, and shortages change over time, and official data is published on a lag. We work to keep PlainMeds accurate and aligned with the FDA and CMS sources, but we cannot guarantee it is complete, current, or free of upstream limitations. If you spot a figure that looks wrong, please report it through our corrections process.

Using this data responsibly

Treat PlainMeds as one input among several. When interpreting what you read here, we recommend you also:

  • Verify the label against DailyMed, the FDA's official labeling source.
  • Talk to your pharmacist about your full medication list — they can catch interactions a single-drug page cannot.
  • Remember that a price, report count, or recall is about a drug in general, not about you specifically.
  • Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before making any decision about your medications.
