POST TREATMENT ACUTE EXACERBATION OF HEPATITIS B.
Severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis B have been reported in patients who are coinfected with HIV-1 and HBV and have discontinued products containing emtricitabine and/or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), and may occur with discontinuation of GENVOYA. Hepatic function should be monitored closely with both clinical and laboratory follow-up for at least several months in patients who are coinfected with HIV-1 and HBV and discontinue GENVOYA. If appropriate, anti-hepatitis B therapy may be warranted [see Warnings and Precautions (5.1) ]. Is there a generic for cobicistat, elvitegravir, emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide (Genvoya)?
No generic cobicistat, elvitegravir, emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide is approved (Drugs@FDA, October 8, 2026).
The Orange Book lists 9 patents for Genvoya tablets: the compound patent runs to August 15, 2032 (pediatric exclusivity to February 15, 2033), and the last listed entry to April 6, 2033. A patent or exclusivity date is not the date a generic goes on sale: court cases and settlements move it either way.

What do FAERS reports show for cobicistat, elvitegravir, emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide?
The FDA Adverse Event Reporting System holds 10,002 reports that list cobicistat, elvitegravir, emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide among the medicines taken, through July 30, 2026, each a report of something that happened, not proof the medicine caused it; 199 are coded as a death and 1,140 as a hospital stay. Counts follow how widely a medicine is used and watched, and they are not a measure of how risky it is. Reports rose sharply in 2020 (4,081, against a median of 524 a year): FAERS counts follow reporting, which news, litigation and label changes can drive, not how often a reaction happens.
