Two medicines, side by side

Olodaterol vs tiotropium

Olodaterol and tiotropium are both labeled for COPD. Drugs@FDA records approvals of olodaterol since 2014 and of tiotropium since 2004. Pharmacies paid $65.94 per gram (Striverdi respimat inhal spray) and $11.81 per tiotropium 18 mcg capsule-inhaler (NADAC, October 7, 2026); the strengths differ and one is a brand and one a generic, so the two prices are not like for like. In FDA's classes, olodaterol is a beta2-adrenergic agonist and tiotropium an anticholinergic.

Half-life, in each label's words: Olodaterol, “The terminal half-life following intravenous administration is 22 hours.”; Tiotropium, “Elimination The terminal half-life of tiotropium in COPD patients following once daily inhalation of 5 mcg tiotropium …”

The compound exerts its pharmacological effects by binding and activation of beta 2 -adrenoceptors after topical administration by inhalation.Tiotropium is a long-acting, antimuscarinic agent, which is often referred to as an anticholinergic. It has similar affinity to the subtypes of muscarinic receptors, M 1 to M 5 .
