Fluvoxamine and Lithium Interaction
Drug interaction information between Fluvoxamine and Lithium.
Fluvoxamine and Lithium have a documented moderate interaction in FDA labeling.
FDA drug labeling documents a moderate-severity interaction between Fluvoxamine and Lithium. This page displays the available source-record category and label text. The category is not an individual risk estimate or medication-combination direction.
How They Interact
Both drugs affect a brain chemical called serotonin, and taking them together can cause too much serotonin activity or even seizures.
FDA Label Information
Lithium: As with other serotonergic drugs, lithium may enhance the serotonergic effects of fluvoxamine and, therefore, the combination should be used with caution. Seizures have been reported with the coadministration of immediate-release fluvoxamine maleate tablets and lithium.
