Clarithromycin and Sildenafil have a documented moderate interaction in FDA labeling.

FDA drug labeling documents a moderate-severity interaction between Clarithromycin and Sildenafil. This page displays the available source-record category and label text. The category is not an individual risk estimate or medication-combination direction.

Drug A

Clarithromycin

Macrolide Antibiotic

Drug B

How They Interact

Clarithromycin stops your body from breaking down sildenafil normally, which can lead to higher and potentially unsafe levels of the drug in your blood.

FDA Label Information

Phosphodiesterase inhibitors: Sildenafil Tadalafil Vardenafil Use With Caution Sildenafil, Tadalafil, Vardenafil: Each of these phosphodiesterase inhibitors is primarily metabolized by CYP3A, and CYP3A will be inhibited by concomitant administration of clarithromycin. Co-administration of clarithromycin with sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil will result in increased exposure of these phosphodiesterase inhibitors.
